Whole Body Nutrition

Food choices are the most important element of a healthy lifestyle. A diet rich in whole-foods, in fresh foods, in real foods can impact our lives more than almost anything else. The problem is, most of us are eating processed foods, sweetened foods or foods loaded with artificial flavors and chemicals. It has become a pandemic. That's why we all must make a conscious choice to stop clamoring for convenience and instead choose to nourish our bodies with nutrients and vitamins from healthy foods.


 Proteins, along with fats, water and carbohydrates are all examples of macronutrients. Although they may have a variety of functions, they are usually consumed in mass quantities and provide the body with the bulk of its energy.

The Vitamins and Their Basic Roles

Vitamins and minerals are micronutrients. Vitamins are fat- or water-soluble compounds. Minerals are inorganic and retain their chemical structure. Traces amounts of these substances are needed for general well-being, development and growth.

•  Vitamin A: vision, immune system, reproduction. Assists with heart, lungs, kidneys and other organs.
•  Vitamin C: wound healing, immune system, antioxidant
•  Vitamin D: bone health, muscle health, immune system, nervous system
•  Vitamin E: antioxidant, immune system, blood flow, cell interaction
•  Vitamin K: blood clotting, bone health, blood flow
•  The B Vitamins are a diverse group of vitamins that assist a number of bodily functions.

However, they are most well-known for their roles in brain and nervous system health, metabolism and cardiovascular health.

List of Major Minerals and Their Basic Roles

Calcium: bone health, muscles, nervous system, blood flow, enzymatic reactions
Iron: blood production, moving oxygen throughout the body, connective tissues
Magnesium: muscle and nerve function, blood sugar levels, electrolyte regulation, blood pressure as well as making protein, bone, and DNA.
Potassium: electrolyte regulation, nerve function, muscle control, and blood pressure.

The Cardiovascular System

The cardiovascular system transports oxygen, nutrients, hormones and cellular waste and is comprised of the heart, blood and veins. The term cardiovascular disease refers to a series of illnesses that can affect this system. Many health problems related to the cardiovascular system have been dubbed "lifestyle diseases" because they stem from bad habits such as a poor diet, a lack of exercise and other lifestyle choices. Part of the problem starts when plaque begins to build up on the arterial walls. This is known as atherosclerosis. From there, high blood pressure, stroke, heart attack and other conditions or illnesses can develop. With proper nutrition and positive changes, a person should be able to correct these problems.

Omega-3 Fatty Acids

The body is unable to make omega-3 fatty acids, and they have to be obtained through food sources. They are readily available through plant sources such as nuts and seeds. Recent research has suggested that plant-sourced omega-3 fatty acids are just as effective for promoting heart health as those from fish.

Dietary Nitrate

Dietary nitrate found in leafy green vegetables, rhubarb and beets has been shown to promote the production of nitric oxide, a vasodilator that widens blood vessels. Multiple studies have shown that drinking beet juice regularly can lower blood pressure.  A recent study showed an 8/4 mmHg reduction in blood pressure, a 20% improvement in blood vessel dilation and a 10% reduction in arterial stiffness. Long-term beet juice consumption was shown to have positive effects on blood pressure, lasting for two weeks after cessation.

Garlic Leaf

Unique wild garlic leaf is harvested in the forests and mountains of Europe and has all the benefits of standard garlic and is more potent.


CoQ10 is found in every human cell, helps the body convert food into energy and is a powerful antioxidant.  It also provides benefits for the cardiovascular system.  According to studies, COQ10 may play a role in lower cholesterol levels due to the fact that people with high cholesterol tend to have lower levels of CoQ10. Additionally, CoQ10 may improve endothelial function and one study found that long-term use showed significant improvements in blood pressure.

The Digestive System

The main function of the digestive system is to break down food into smaller bits so that the nutrients can be absorbed by the body and converted into energy.  Its secondary role is to remove the waste leftover from the conversion process.


The average person gets only 15 grams of fiber a day. The American Heart Association recommended amount of fiber is 20-35 grams per day. Research has shown that people with high-fiber diets increase their survival rates by 22%.

Fiber comes exclusively from plants, and there are two types of fiber:  Soluble and insoluble. Although both are necessary, soluble breaks down in water and insoluble does not.

Insoluble fiber can absorb water and keep you fuller, longer and can help make waste easier to pass. Some soluble fibers work as prebiotics.

Symptoms of low fiber intake include weight gain, constipation, blood sugar fluctuations and fatigue.  Fiber also helps control cholesterol levels and may improve mineral absorption.
Studies have shown that fiber may prevent diverticulitis, reduce the risk of first-time stroke by 7% and help your body remove the carcinogens in cooked meat.

Digestive Enzymes:

Digestive enzymes are proteins that act as biological catalysts that help the body convert food into usable stuff like energy or amino acids. They also facilitate the absorption of nutrients. Digestive enzymes are fragile things.  Food, in its natural state, should contain enzymes. Because so much of today's food is processed and/or cooked, we often don't get the enzymes that we're supposed to.


Probiotics are living microorganisms that regulate the movement of food through the digestive system and have been used to supplement the treatment of several digestive diseases.

Additionally, probiotics help balance intestinal pH and keep unfriendly and unwanted bacteria populations from thriving. Our gut flora does a number of other beneficial bodily tasks like producing B vitamins, pathogen protection, aiding our immune systems and disarming toxic compounds.

A thriving and healthy gut microbiome can be thrown off kilter by relatively common things: stress, not eating enough fruits and vegetables, artificial sweeteners, antacids, antibiotics, toxins and individual digestion problems.

Lymphatic System:

As a sub-section of the circulatory system, the lymphatic system—composed of the spleen, thymus, bone marrow and lymph nodes—acts a filter for interstitial fluid. Sixteen percent of your body weight is comprised of this fluid.  It provides the cells a method of receiving nutrients and removing waste.

The lymphatic system cleans the fluid and returns it to use. As a central part of the immune system, the lymphatic system removes pathogens and toxins, generating antibodies for bacteria and viruses in the lymph nodes.

This system also plays a huge role in digestion because lipids—molecules such as fats, fat-soluble vitamins, etc—are also transported by the lymph fluid.
